Kwanzaa (Pan-African) Cooking Class

$80Kwanzaa is a week-long African-American celebration of family, community, and empowerment to honor African ancestors and culture. No celebration is a festivity without delicious food. Running from December 26 to January 1, and based on seven guiding principles, one for each day of the observance, each gathering begins by lighting candles, exchanging gifts, and adorning homes in the African colors of red, green, and black. Throughout the week, favorite African-American dishes, as well as traditional African, Caribbean, and South American recipes are on many tables. Some of the dishes we will make include This holiday season, look to Kwanzaa and Pan – African traditions to rejuvenate your holiday menu. Black-Eyed Pea Salad, African Meat Pies, Salmon Cakes, Jamaican Rice and Peas, Brazilian Collard Greens, and Guava Cheesecake. The cost of the class includes the price of the lesson, the cost of food/lunch, recipe book, and edible holiday gift. Students are welcome to BYOB if they feel so inclined. Students will not only learn kitchen techniques and delicious recipes to take home with them but will also learn some wonderful tricks that make for throwing a successful dinner party!
